Re-Rezzolutions: A Special Interview with Cindy Morgan for Yori Lives

Yori Lives proudly presents "Re-Rezzolutions" a special interview with Cindy Morgan. We get to ask her about the making of TRON, the character of Yori/Lora, her work on the video game TRON 2.0, deleted scenes and more.

Thanks for supporting YORI LIVES, this interview is a gift back to the fans who have supported the cause since it began, Cindy Morgan is grateful for the support and hopes as we all do that these characters of Yori or Lora will find a 'resolution' in the next chapter of TRON.

It's Campaign Season...

There are probably hundreds of 'fan campaigns' on the internet, actually, could be thousands. Fans want to express themselves, what they want from their favorite movies, television shows, etc, and what they'd like to see in 'future installments' of those things, hoping that the producers, writers, directors, and the companies which finance these projects will actually listen. Sometimes they actually work.

"Yori Lives" is one of those campaigns, and for all we know it is completely in vain--that they already actually do have plans to return Yori, or Lora to the TRON series. We have no idea, but we hope they're listening. We do know that sometimes the filmmakers do not listen, and they actually arrogantly complain and mock their own audience--their own 'customers,' their own followers, such as the case with George Lucas, who couldn't give a crap what his meal-ticket wants. In this case we're not actually asking for much, but a reasonable and obvious continuation--so long as they've decided to 'continue' that series, which they have.

We're not the only Tron Fans seeking resolutions and continuations, there are other 'campaigns' out there as well.

There are those who want "FLYNN's ARCADE" to remain open, so that those who haven't yet gotten a chance to see it can, and so that those who have can return. Why Disney would be closing this and ElecTRONica is beyond my comprehension at this point, since they have TRON UPRISING coming out, and a possible TRON 3 which everybody, and I mean everybody wants. Tron Fans want their TRON, and it would seem Disney doesn't realize the staying-power of their franchise, they don't seem to realize the enthusiasm of their own fans. Leading of course to these campaigns. Also, there is a campaign to start a "TRON CONVENTION" which I think is also a good idea, it makes sense since TRON LEGACY probably produced a few more million hard-core Tron fans which are just as intent and intense as Star Trek or Star Wars fans. We're out there, in vast numbers and growing, it makes no sense whatsoever simply from a business point of view to ignore it. They're called 'customers' and they're begging you to sell them more stuff... weird that this company which is so intent on getting even richer is ignoring yet another opportunity.

KEEP FLYNN'S ARCADE OPEN PETITION

TRON-CON PETITION

ElecTRONica Gathering

So, if you're a TRON fan, the best thing you can do is be an 'active' User, and take some time, put out some effort, and things can get done. Lend your support to these campaigns, take the effort to simply click things on your screen, expand your TRON support also to:

RAM LIVES

DAN SHORE FANS

You wonder what can you do? How can it be done? Well, nothing will happen if you do nothing. How to get things done can be as simple as doing the following very simple things:

-"Liking" posts on Facebook, a thumbs up on various sites simply isn't enough, also view counts can show activity, the better and more effective thing to do is to "share" links. Many sites offer a simple "share" button to Facebook and other sites. If you don't do this, it won't matter how much you 'like' anything if people don't know it. By simply 'sharing' a link, which is spreading and sending links out there, people will click and your 'like' may increase tenfold. "Share" first, then 'like.'

-Copy and paste links, send links and share links, information remains isolated and null if nobody is searching for it, but sending it out there may interest someone, if people don't KNOW about a petition or site or piece of information, they're not going to sign that petition, nor comment.

-Many articles do not allow links, therefore, you must simply comment using a 'search term.' By tying a simple comment such as "Yori Lives" or "Re-Rezz RAM" or "Save Flynn's Arcade" well, that works, people see it, it's that simple.

-The 'online campaign' is as "TRON" as "TRON" They invented a fictional 'online campaign' for TRON LEGACY, so instead of simply consuming the entertainment, and playing that game, why not do the actual thing? It's time you did. Make "TRON UPRISING" something real by actually participating.

-Share the campaign pics, share the campaign links, and create your own. Pass on the pictures and graphics you see here on this site, put them on your facebook pages, your forums, your tumblrs, contribute to the visibility of the ideas. There is no other way.

-We're obviously not asking for money, and for not much at all, other than active participation, it really is that easy and that simple. By doing something like this, you also participate and practice for when something far more important is at stake, by aquiring these skills, and utilizing the technology you have, you will be able to 'do something' when you truly responsibly should. The same rules apply to any online campaign concept. If you can't 'raise awareness' or participate in an entertainment-campaign, what use are you when something important happens, and when something you absolutely should engage in, such as in the case of any political campaign? Use the tools you have, USER. Use the technology you have, USER, before your ability, and freedom to use it is gone forever. Participate. Spend an extra 10 seconds of your time clicking "share" or posting a link on Twitter, those who do, participate in 'changing the world,' those who don't participate in their own enslavement.

Grid Report 11.7.11

THE GRID REPORT 11.7.11

Here we are again, another Monday, and ...well... nothing from the officially-official corporate sponsors of "Tron" a.k.a. Disney...

Then again, perhaps it's on some secret location on the web, and they're expecting people to find it.

Meanwhile, YORI T-Shirts are out. We didn't make them, but somebody with a brain out there did. You can get your Yori T-Shirts which say "Get with the Program" at http://elidearoproductions.spreadshirt.com/ in a variety of colors of your choosing. Bravo.

Coming December 3rd in Toronto, Canada, is the "Neurodance" Tron club-party, a Tron Costume Christmas Party, which you can find more info at HERE. What this means is that the "TRON" thing is still happening, in the costume-mania party scene. You see, I'm not making this shit up, at least the Canadians are still getting their Tron on. Until somebody with some financing skill, and some creativity can put together a 'Tron Convention' which is probably better sooner, rather than later, we will have the occasional 'Tron Party' or 'Tron Night' or 'Tron Rave' and while these are great costume-wearing opportunities for Tron Fans, unless you're really into techno dancing and blue drinks, there's not much for the rest of you. You can sign the Tron-Con petition if you like, to support the idea, but ultimately it isn't up to 'Disney' it's up to the right businessman or woman, you see, a 'Con' is a business, and it's ultimately a business venture, and that's why there are all kinds of groups of people out there who all they do is put on conventions. Its a pretty good deal, but in order to get started, you have to put up a pretty good sum of cash, not a fortune mind you, not the budget of Tron Legacy, but that's really what it will take. No, you might not be able to call it "Tron Con," and you might have to call it GRIDFEST or something, and you'd have to start out where you know people are going to show, like LA, Seattle or Chicago or something, but it can most certainly be done. I would suggest however until it happens, to keep talking about it on the web, like we do here, (often for no reason at all) because that's the only way it's going to happen. Investing in a 'Tron Con' is a sure thing, but I'd set up a table at COMIC CON, just to advertise it, and pass out flyers there before it happens, then you'll get your audience.

If you're into Japanese style Manga, there's a version of TRON LEGACY now available on the web. I have no idea how long this has been out there but Yori Lives has brought it to your attention. This is not unpredictable, as there were a couple issues of Japanese Manga out for years back in the 80s of the original television series "V" which only came to my attention a couple years ago. Anyway, it's in English for your enjoyment.

And speaking of retro stuff dug up from the 80s, this Disney commercial for an ice skating show features "Tron on Ice." You don't want to miss it.

And while we know that someone out there is working on another Tron artifact, gadget, or toy of some sort, and that now would be as good a time as any, being that the Holidays are coming out soon enough, we await what will be an inevitable assortment of Tron goodies for Christmas this year... you can bet on on that. What I'm still waiting for are retro-Tron glow in the dark frisbees, because I think that would really be pretty cool, if somebody could make a few. It can't be that difficult, a glow in the dark frisbee with some circles on top? You can't even be sued for that.

For updates on various Tron news and activities throughout the week, check Yori Lives on Facebook, as well as join the Yori Lives Facebook Group, and Tron Lives Facebook Group.

If anybody out there is still reading this blog, email yorilives @yahoo.com, perhaps a couple of us can get together via the internet to put together a podcast, I've done podcasts before, I even used to do a late night radio show, so I'm quite capable, but as I've learned in the past, a one-man podcast is a boring thing. If anybody wants to chat on the phone for an hour about stuff like I've just written about above, that's basically the easiest thing and way to do it. The Grid Report would make a great podcast, and I know some people we could probably interview, so send me a note. If you're interested in adding anything to this blog, suggestions, criticisms, gripes, contributions, articles, artwork, anything at all, you can also send a note.

Long live the Users...

Yori Collectibles

PART I

If you are a Yori fan, finding Yori-specific collectibles is probably not very easy, they are hard to find, rare or simply non-existent. I have scoured the internet for as many as I could find. The following items are not all readily available, and they are not for sale on this site if you're looking for them. They are presented here for your reference and I have added as much information and links as I could find.

If you're a custom figure creator, a sculptor, a T-shirt designer, or any sort of craftsperson, you might consider the rarity of the goods on this character. In other words, there is for lack of a better term, 'an open market' on Yori. When you do see Yori stuff, if it's unique, it ain't cheap.

TRON COLLECTOR'S PIN with Tron and Yori

Number 29 in the "Countdown to Millennium Series."

While this isn't exactly Yori-specific, there she is, in all her 'main-characterhood' as she is on the cover of the Tron videos, and in the Tron movie posters. As we know, the movie is called "TRON" because of this dude named 'Tron,' and with him, the main characters, 'Flynn' and 'Yori' who destroy the MCP.

Get it?

A few of these are still around, you might even be able to still get one under $10.

More information can be found here.

MEDICOM KUBRICK TRON SET A

The only 'figurine' ever made of YORI to my knowledge is by the Medicom toy company. The basic Kubrick figure design is nearly identical to Lego figures.

"Yori" comes in Set A, with "Tron."

If you do find this, it will genearlly run $40 to $60.

You can find more information here and here.

YORI COCA-COLA COLLECTOR'S CUP

I couldn't tell you just where you could originally obtain these, but there were several cups with various Tron characters on them, one of them features Yori.

These are probably not easy to find in very good condition, but if they do show up on ebay, they probably aren't that

expensive, as long as you're willing to spend $3 to $6 plus shipping for a single plastic cup.

TRON COLLECTOR'S CUP

Featuring Tron, Yori and Flynn.

I am not sure if this is the one, but one of these features a handle. Made of plastic.

More information on this and much more rare and unusual vintage TRON Collectibles can be found at the amazing website, Neato Coolsville.

He's not selling, he's just displaying the stuff, but it's worth a look.

RARE PHOTOS

There are quite a few images of these black and white photos on the internet and on the DVD of "TRON." Many of them are poor resolution, and many of them can be found on ebay, however, there are photos out there not on the DVD, and not readily available as scanned and presented on various

websites, that people have either obtained in press kits, or on ebay, more are always turning up that I've never seen before. One could say there are probably a hundred or more different shots from this type, featuring the characters in different poses in costume. Some taken on set during filming, others for promotional purposes, and 'test' purposes for effects. More are always turning up every day, if you see any or have any rare ones, please send us scans for the new Yori Archive coming to this blog. While some of these are autographed, so many of the rare ones are not, and weren't sold with autographs. There are quite a few Yori photos I have seen in such poor resolution pictures, here and there, and either disappear off the net, or I've never seen them again, and never seen on ebay. Please send us scans of your rare photos so we can do more graphics and display them. Also, get them when you find them, they disappear fast.

RARE COSTUME PHOTOS

Anyone who has this set, please scan them to your computer as soon as possible, I can't say how many of these there are, if there are even any more other than the ones shown in this picture. Consider this ultra-rare, and impossible to find. These unique costume photos I've only seen once on ebay. If you own these, I'd consider paying you to scan them in and send them to me.

CRAIG DRAKE YORI PAINTING PRINT

Done in the style of Nagel, by Craig Drake, this special Tron print glows in the dark under ultraviolet light. That is a pretty neat feature for 'fine art.'

These are still available, but probably not for long.

You can purchase them still on a few various sites, Disney Art Studio has them here for $50, unframed.

Yori Lives Update

Well, after a bit of a slow-down in Tron hype, and some time off, there's still a lot of things to come here on YORI LIVES. We're still trying to encourage people to contribute, and there's a possible contest in the works here soon, we still have a few months before the premiere of TRON UPRISING, so hopefully we'll be doing some interesting things to get fans more active. If you haven't done anything yet, now's the time to help out. This summer was a whole host of new articles and

events in which the word got out even more about YORI LIVES.

We thank all the artists once again who gave us permission to post their artwork here, and you still can if you haven't yet.Remember, that one great thing you can do, if you don't have time to do anything else, is when you read or see articles on TRON, comment, or ask about Yori. Declare Yori Lives! And by continuing to do this, the word will continue to get out.

It seems we're getting most of our page views from facebook and deviantart. Become a friend of Yori Lives on facebook and join the 3100 supporters of Yori Lives.

YORI LIVES Gets some Press...

From the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER:

"Yori didn’t reunite with Tron in the the 2010 sequel, “Tron: Legacy.”

But fans of the couple can see the duo reunite at the Disney’s D23 Expo, set for Friday, Aug. 19, to Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Expo is a convention hosted by D23,Disney’s official fan club. Actress Cindy Morgan, who played Yori and Dr. Lora Baines, will be part of a panel on Aug. 20 with actor Bruce Boxleitner, who played Tron. Morgan’s characters, who played a large part of the original 1982 movie, were left out of the sequel.

Morgan fans created a Facebook page, “Yori Lives,” which has more than 3,100 followers.

“There’s been this outpouring on blogs and web sites,” Morgan said. “It probably wouldn’t have happened if I had been in the movie (Tron:Legacy).”

Yori Lives Campaign Update

YORI LIVES CAMPAIGN UPDATE

We're slowly gaining ground in terms of web-presence. The first major thing that must be done is linking. When someone searches for "TRON UPRISING" or "TRON 3" the idea is that "YORI LIVES" can be connected to these upcoming projects when someone does a search, it can come up on their screens. As of right now, a search for Yori will turn up some results, and image searches will turn up some results, and we're getting a few hits a day, possibly more than other TRON sites, but it would be great if people submitted our links out there so we could gain 'more ground.'

If you actually want YORI in any future installment of TRON you're going to have to do the easy work which is submit links, and comment on anything TRON-UPRISING or TRON-3 related out there with either a link to the YORI LIVES FB page, or this Blog, or even a simple text "Yori Lives" or "Where's Yori" will do the trick.

This is the simplest and easiest thing you can do to help and make this happen. What this blog has to offer is more "Tron" content, and regular updates, while others wait for more Buzz on TRON UPRISING, you can either go to the YORI LIVES FB Page or this Blog for regular updated content about Tron and Yori. We've got videos, art, articles and lots of links. If you're a TRON Fan, this is a regular site you can go to get some cool stuff 'on the Grid.'

If you're a big Tron fan, you should help out, and contribute something. What can you contribute? You can send a link you found about TRON, you can write an article, you can send graphics, art or pictures you find, you can be creative and come up with something we haven't though of. This obviously isn't the only Tron Fan site in existence, and if you want a 'forum' I'd recommend you go to TRON SECTOR where one is already established, there you can communicate with other Tron fans about a variety of Tron subjects. If you're more of a Yori/Cindy Morgan Fan, then we need you here, to communicate to the world what you think, so commenting, and even writing an article here is what you can really do.

Each article that comes out about TRON UPRISING should be commented on by us, with the question and/or links to Yori Lives. Some suggest a petition to have Yori in TRON UPRISING, and while this allows you to voice your opinion, petitions have less effect than constantly seeing 'YORI' referenced in the publicly available articles which come out in the news on entertainment sites or news sites. Commenting on everything from videos, blogs, news articles, interviews, etc, about "Yori" will get it out there, and in the search engines, and constantly remind people about our cherished character, while a petition will only be read by those who sign it.

Writing Disney has a better chance of affecting anything than a petition, and while it may be ignored, and may not even reach anyone with any influence, it is 'getting out there' and doing something, and if you're willing to do that, it may have even more impact if you share links on the internet wherever you go, or even contribute art or an article HERE, because it helps to build the momentum in the framework of the "Net." Writing Disney can be considered as much a dead end as a petition, and even as much as posting your thoughts in a Tron-centric forum, as these things will probably never be found in any google search.

If you feel you can't do any of these things, then visit this site, so we know at least somebody is out there hitting it, and still interested. Commenting here lets us know people still care, and also every comment is in and of itself a contribution to this site. People do read comments, and check out who's interested. We haven't gotten to the 'threaten Disney' stage where we suggest that if they don't include Yori, its over for the TRON FRANCHISE because we're still trying to get the idea out there that it only makes sense to include and tie up the plot holes which have to do with Lora and Yori. They still have a chance. I will continue to do what I can, will you?

6.25.2011

The Yori Art Project Gallery

Coming soon to this site is a "Yori Art Gallery" where artists can contribute their art of Yori in Tron. There are several reasons for this. There is quite a bit of art out there for TRON and of course, specifically YORI. Having a place where people can post this art so that others interested in this subject can also view it will show that there is still significant interest in Yori, thus contributing to the campaign to 'Return Cindy Morgan to the Grid' but also to provide links, which credit the artists. A lot of this art has been posted in forums and sent around Facebook and nobody knows who the artists really are, most often people are assuming that the person posting it is the artist. In such a gallery here, Both the Fans of Yori, Cindy Morgan and Tron will have the opportunity to see who has made this contribution, as well as anyone visiting who might like to further communicate with the artist.

The objective is more than a "Fan Art" page, it will hopefully inspire more art, and in the spirit of what "YORI" actually represents in the movie, the point is to spread the meme of the character as artist, as a 'design program' as 'creativity' itself.

Submit your articles, art, pics of your paintings, photoshops, etc to philsternwise @ yahoo . com

Art has already begun being collected and the gallery will be up within a few days.

Long live the Users.

So, Why is YORI Important to Tron?

So why should anybody care about "YORI," a character from the original 1982 TRON movie now that there has been a brand new update? Why should we? First of all, you must ask yourself just who was this "YORI" and what was she in this old TRON movie. She is one of a trio of heroes who defeated the MCP, and of course "Tron's" main squeeze. The first question is, wasn't she more than that? Yes, as a matter of fact, she was. As each character played a dual role in TRON, portraying a 'real world' person, and an 'electronic' person in the "Grid," the alter-egos or 'avatars' if you will must be understood within the context of the story. Alan Bradley, played by Bruce Boxleitner was a "User" of a program in the computer called "Tron." Kevin Flynn was a "User" of a program called "CLU," and of course Cindy Morgan played Lora Baines, who we must assume was the "User" of a program called "Yori."

Our trio in the real world breaks into Encom to retrieve some files, and once Flynn is digitized by Lora's laser, we do not see or hear from "Lora" again until the very end. What happens is that when we see "Yori" we (and Kevin Flynn) wonder if it is Lora, we cannot be shown Lora up to this point, and back in the 80s, the weirdness of this event and the whole idea of 'ater egos' within a computer system was pretty strange, we are pleasantly surprised to see Lora as Yori once we've seen Flynn have some rather crazy adventures. Her appearance is that of strange familiarity, and we never see what is going on in the 'real world' once Flynn is inside. We do hear ALAN's voice when Tron contacts his 'User.'

But who the hell are all these people anyway? The 'electronic people' in TRON are not exactly 'human' and they're not exactly entirely to be understood as plain characters in an adventure plot. They are extensions of our human characters at the beginning, but they are NOT them, as we might understand an 'avatar' or 'alter ego' they are 'programs' which are being 'used' by our 'Users,' our human characters at the beginning. So when Flynn runs into them, he's human, and they are not the people he knows, they are 'programs' which seem to be awake, aware and emotional beings. For the sake of the story they perform as humans might, but in some very strange ways, personified computer applications, they are endowed with faces of their "Users" and strangely enough, seem to carry on some part of the personalities of their 'Users.'

Alan is a bit of an uptight programmer, he's created a kind of security program, which he wants to apply to the MCP. He is furious when he's locked out of the system. He just wants 'user freedom.' This is of course what "TRON" wants, and in the electronic world, Alan's counterpart is a heroic fighter, not a computer nerd, and big bad tough guy. He appears to embody that which Alan really wants to be. Lora Baines is a genius who has invented a digitizing teleportation laser for Encom. It may be that her work is tedius, perhaps she designed the 'Solar Sailer' which is a painting hanging in Dillinger's office, and was coldly rejected and told that she wasn't hired to create flights of fancy, and went back to work in the cold sterile lab in the basement, applying her scientific skills...to turn something...into nothing. Her opposite, her counterpart in the electronic world is "Yori," and when we meet her, she's hypnotized by the work of overseeing the 'resolution' or construction of the Solar Sailer, spouting numbers and seemingly in a dull and boring job working for Sark. This is no coincidence. Our characters are, in a way, presented as perhaps how they wish they could be, as later, Yori steals the Solar Sailer with Tron to destroy the MCP. She reclaims what could be her own beautiful design.

Yori is a design program. She is described in the novel this way as well, as a 'design program.' Yori is like a C.A.D. program, or computer-aided design, or for the everyman, Photoshop, or Paintshop, etc. She expresses a secret and 'illegal' creativity in the deleted scene, by being able to change her apartment into a brilliantly psychedelic colored, or perhaps fractal designed apartment. Inside, she's creative, she's an artist, and as Tron is the "Liberator" and personifies that, she is literally, "Creativity." Yori's presence in the movie isn't as simple as "Tron's squeeze" or the "damsel in distress" she's unusual in that she is the creative spirit. Tron is the burning desire for freedom, and the strength to achieve it, Flynn is the mischievous hacker, the intelligence in the system, he's the mind, and free-thinking part of the equation, and what you have left is Yori, the creativity, the soul of beauty, and art.

The importance of Yori in TRON is now clear, and so now that we've intellectually pegged it down, why does any of this matter? The spirit of "TRON" is essentially that of inspiration in a world which is bogged down in cold sterile technology. Numbers. Breaking free, to not be controlled and imprisoned and enslaved by that system, but to use it, to be yourself, and be free, otherwise that system is useless to us humans.

Yori represents what must not be forgotten in an age of technology as advanced (and advancing) as ours today, like any character in such a mythological film, we often need to be reminded as we become more and more numbed by our technology that we need creativity, we need art, we need it to makes sense out of what is going on, and we need it to be free. If we end up living in a cold sterile computerized world, and everyone mindlessly works for the system, using their talents to do nothing but devise and design weapons and sterile technical things which will do us all harm one day, than Yori will truly be dead. Just as certain characters we celebrate and enjoy because of what they MEAN, it would be a mistake to leave Yori behind, deleted, consigned to the abandonware shelf, only to be replaced by the latest cliche.

Tron is indeed a cult film, and a classic of cinema in that we've seen nothing like it before it, and nothing like it since, and as we are all happy they have finally brought it back to the public consciousness, we also need to know what happened to our characters. We don't all read comics and play videogames, so the missing element was of course where's Lora Baines and where's Yori? Yori had no particular replacement, and when certain characters like TRON or FLYNN begin to represent certain things in culture, we need to know where the other pieces are and as the meanings can be updated and changed to say something new, as in LEGACY, we still have a missing piece, and it need not be missing for long, as two more TRON projects are forthcoming, UPRISING and a third picture. There is nothing more magical than having original cast members reprise their roles, and nothing more cheap and depressing than having them replaced. Join this internet campaign to demand that if they want to continue TRON, it only MAKES SENSE to follow up this inspirational character, and that we still have CINDY MORGAN here to continue that role, so it only makes sense for her return. Once people realize just what YORI means in the context of what TRON means to a lot of people, it will MAKE SENSE to have her come back and finish the story.
